Happy Solar Family: Sue of Leichhardt
With Inner West Community Energy support, Leichhardt resident Sue* had a 2.375 kilowatt rooftop solar system and 13.44 kilowatt-hour battery installed two months ago.
Here’s her story.
“I moved into this house about two and a half years ago after being in a strata and I had been thinking about solar and a battery for some time. I was very concerned about finding someone appropriate to do the installation and wondering whether it would be worth it, as I have a very small roof and it’s quite overshadowed.
“I wanted to reduce emissions, but equally a primary driver was to take pressure off the grid. I’m never going to be independent, but at least I can be somewhat independent.

“I went to an Inner West Community Energy information evening at the Royal Hotel in Leichhardt. It was brilliant. There was an installer there who clearly knew his business and I felt absolutely confident that the job would be done to the highest possible degree.
“The fact that IWCE is a community group was not a major factor for me, but it was important that you’re not a commercial group. Like any community group, everyone’s a nerd about their topic!
“Paul Trad [of Guwing Green] was my installer and his service was brilliant. My order didn’t go in until the third week of November and my system was installed before Christmas. Gold!
“By no means am l loaded, but I really wanted to make some small contribution so the financial payback was the least important consideration.
“Thinking about climate change and the next generation, I’m terrified about what’s going to happen to them. I don’t expect to make my money back, but this is something that I can actually do.”
Thanks for your support, Sue!
If you’d like to hear how we can help Inner West households with solar, batteries and perhaps full electrification, our next information night “Go Solar and Storage in Hurlstone Park” is on March 10 at HP Bowlo in Dulwich Hill, starting at 7pm. It’s part of Climate Action Week 2026.
It’s a free event but bookings are essential here.
