Happy Solar Family: Lindsay of Leichhardt
Leichhardt resident Lindsay Pells has lived in her current house for 14 years but with the arrival last year of the federal battery rebate, it was time to reach out for our help going solar and installing a battery.
She was driven by a desire for independence as much as possible from her electricity supplier.

“I wanted to put solar on basically for the future so I wouldn't get any horrible electricity bills,” Lindsay says. “I have neighbours who, every time they get a bill, they possibly change their provider - I know quite a few people who do that. So you’ve really got to work to find the cheapest provider, which really annoys me.
“And it’s just not something I want to have to think about as I get older.”
Lindsay met up with IWCE at the White’s Creek Ecofestival in 2024. She got back in touch last August and with our support she had her 5.72 kW solar system and 9.6 kilowatt-hour battery installed in November.

As well as saving money, Lindsay’s investment was driven by a deep concern for the environment. She wanted to play her part in cutting her household carbon emissions.
“I just like working with the environment rather than against it,” she says. “Using natural resources - the sun. I like the whole ethos behind that.”
If you’d like to hear how Inner West Community Energy can help you with rooftop solar, a battery and perhaps going all-electric, our first Solar Information Night in 2026 will be on Monday, February 2 at the Southern Cross Hotel in St Peters, starting at 7pm.
It’s a free event but bookings are essential, via Humanitix here.
If you can’t make it but would like to get in touch, hit the Contact Us tab on our website.
