End-of-year volunteer celebration

14 December 2025

It was back to Leichhardt Bowling Club on Thursday evening for the Inner West Community Energy management committee and our volunteers for our end of year celebration.

As the Bowlo remains the biggest PV system we’ve facilitated (63 kilowatts in 2022, partly funded by the Stronger Communities Program) that was the obvious place for us to go.

And we had heaps to celebrate!

The group ends 2025 stronger than ever, with a new chairperson, software engineer Amanda Deacon, a new secretary, just-retired market researcher Helen Barnes, IT whiz Lee Booy keeping the database humming, and a new events manager in Alex Varley, plus other new volunteers who will add to our capacity in the new year.

This year we’ve become a registered charity with tax deductibility status for donations, we held our most successful community event ever, a battery and hot water heat pump mini-expo in August, and we’re now getting very close to ticking over having facilitated $5 million worth of rooftop solar across the Inner West and $1 million worth of batteries.

But of course there’s still lots more to do to get Sydney’s Inner West running on 100% renewable energy!
