Our 100th home battery installed!

23 March 2026

Meet Leichhardt resident Marjan*, the happy owner of the 100th home battery we have facilitated in the Inner West.

She’s the one here holding one of our fence signs, with IWCE chairperson Amanda Deacon and battery installer Tillman Kiesow of Tillman Electrical Services.

“I wanted to put a battery on because of the future,” Marjan says. “I have seven grandchildren. There are many grandchildren in the world and I’m doing it for them, for their future, for the future of the world - to minimise fossil-fuel use, to maximise solar use. And it’s been a really positive experience.”

We helped Marjan seven years ago install a 12-panel, 3.72 kilowatt solar PV system. She came to our home battery mini-expo last August in Marrickville, learnt all about batteries, and decided she wanted one.

“Now it’s great. I don’t use the grid at all,’ she says. “I only use it to put electricity in. I don’t use any electricity from the grid. That’s a very good positive way to go, I think.”

As a not-for-profit, registered charity, Inner West Community Energy is here to help Inner Westies go solar, install batteries, and go down the path to full electrification.

“What I really like is that I can trust that the people that will come and install are top-quality people,” Marjan says. “You evaluate them, you evaluate the quote, and I can just know it’s all going to work beautifully.

“It’s really, really helpful, because it’s fairly complex. It’s fairly new. So being able to trust the people who will help put it together is really, really fantastic.”

Next Sunday, March 29, we’ll be at the Smart Energy Expo in Drummoyne from 10am till 3pm. It’s a free event but please register through Climate Action Burwood Canada Bay here.
